2nd December 2018
Windsurfing: West Mersea
Wind Direction: West
Wind Stength: 12_25
Surf / Sea State: Flat / Swell
Air Temperature: warm
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: sunny
Max Speed: 25.44 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 8.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Last minute change of mind to windsurf headed out to West Mersea after lots of data on whats app. On arrival pretty much the majority of Felixstowe windsurfers were there, floundering! After chatting decided to go home, with Strawbs who went home. Slowly I started feeling some breeze and one or 2 on big kit was just about planing. Tide was well out so there was a 100m walk to fin deep water over oysters, painful for Swainey boy who was barefoot! Rigged 9.2 GA Phantom twin cam plugged to 145 Patrik and it was a cream launch perfect power whilst small sails were struggling. Long burn up with Neil on old school kit Mistral Shredder made it a great day, with nothing between it and the current Patrik - both going flat out toward East of the Island. Same again with Swainey, but this time Swainey sat in my dirty wind and bit the dust. Next up would have been Andy Mex and Pete on his quick Severne Fox 120. But the wind filled in and wiped me out even after cranking so much downhaul I thought the mast would break. It was game over for me, and I was very lucky and happy to get back to the launch point a mile away. It was impossible to sheet in - but lucky the cam kept shape and cruised back. It was too far to walk and change down so called it a day. Sadly after walking the kit back, the wind dropped back to my size - but my then I had lost the plot. Had a chat with the Felixstowe crew and some Mersea boys before heading off to the sauna. Only covered 8nm before being blown away. Everyone had a great time even though wind was up / down, but a driver said his car was reading 18 degrees outside in the carpark, great for December. This is probably it for me, but if a 15 degrees turn up again......
